Our Commitment
Vélez Law Group is committed to ensuring that our website meets or exceeds the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. We believe digital accessibility is a civil right — and our website reflects that conviction.
We design and develop with accessibility as a core requirement, not an afterthought. Our goal is to ensure that every visitor — regardless of ability, assistive technology, or browsing method — can fully access our content and services.
No Overlay Widgets — Ever
We do not use, and will never use, accessibility overlay widgets on this website. Overlay tools marketed as "one-line fixes" for web accessibility do not work. They create the illusion of compliance without addressing the underlying code barriers that exclude people with disabilities.
In 2024, the Federal Trade Commission fined accessiBe, one of the largest overlay vendors, $1 million for deceptive advertising — confirming what disability rights advocates have said for years: overlays do not make websites accessible.
Real accessibility requires proper semantic HTML, meaningful alt text, keyboard navigability, sufficient color contrast, and tested compatibility with screen readers. That is what we build.
How We Test
We use a combination of automated and manual testing to evaluate and maintain accessibility:
- •Screen reader testing (NVDA, VoiceOver, JAWS) to verify content is properly announced and navigable
- •Keyboard-only navigation testing to ensure all interactive elements are reachable and operable
- •Automated scanning tools (axe, Lighthouse) to identify color contrast, labeling, and structural issues
- •Manual review of all new content and interactive features before publication

Standards & Guidelines
This website targets conformance with WCAG 2.2 Level AA, as published by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.2 AA is the standard referenced by the Department of Justice in its enforcement of the ADA's application to websites and the standard adopted in the DOJ's April 2024 Title II rule for state and local government websites.
